ELAND has officially launched Chico De Marianas, a luxury chocolate brand made in the CNMI. The launch was marked by a small gathering of special guests at Kensington Hotel on Friday, July 28.
According to a media release, Chico De Marianas is a four-piece set of souvenir chocolates with ingredients made in the CNMI: limes and mangos from Saipan; hot pepper from Tinian; and sweet potato from Rota. The chocolates are covered with a decorative shell that has different fillings.
Chico De Marianas is available for purchase at the Ohas Cafe at Kensington Hotel.
The name of the brand is inspired by the word “Chiku,” which in Chamorro means kiss.
“As the CNMI, we are a multi-island destination,” said E-Land CEO Brian Shin. “[We] were always wondering what is the special souvenir that our tourists can take away when they’re visiting the CNMI and that represents us. What [E-Land] did is we came up with a chocolate product that uses the ingredients of Tinian, Rota, and Saipan.”
Shin said it took E-Land executives a few months to source the chocolate molds from Turkey, and the chocolate from Belgium. Shin said a percentage of the hot pepper, sweet potato, lime, and mango comes directly from the CNMI.
“This is a very, very high-end product we’re introducing to the market,” Shin said.
He said in September, E-Land will open a café in Garapan where Chico De Marianas will also be for sale.
On Saipan, Eland owns and operates Kensington, the Pacific Islands Club and Coral Ocean Resort Saipan.
