“WORKING together makes a difference,” said Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday for the Gualo Rai basketball court which was repainted by the Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club and the Saipan Maga'Haga Lady Eagles.

In February, the Eagles adopted the basketball court as part of the Saipan mayor’s adopt-a-place program.

The mayor expressed his appreciation to the group for “seeing the value of an area for recreation.”

“I thank you all for your time and effort — it is beautifully done,” he told the Eagles on Thursday. “It’s no longer an eyesore. Now it can be used for physical fitness recreation activities in our community. It shows that you really care for the community.”

He said his office “cannot do it alone — we need the community and everyone.... Together we can promote a safe community, a safe island, and a beautiful island.”

Among the other government officials who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, Sen. Francisco Cruz, Department of Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Sylvan Igisomar, Reps. Roy Ada, Vicente Camacho, Malcolm Omar and Julie Ogo.

“The project started small, but we really worked hard to complete it,” Saipan Maga'Haga Lady Eagles President Yolanda de Ramos said. “Our success is also the success of the community. This is for everyone in the community.”

On Sunday, Aug. 6, at 3 p.m. the Saipan Eagles Club Basketball League opened at the Gualo Rai basketball court.
